Easter Break: April 14–20th

As Easter approaches, we at The Yutzy School invite our families to embrace the beauty, hope, and joy of this sacred season. Easter is not only a time for celebration but also a powerful opportunity to draw closer to Jesus Christ and reflect on the miracle of His Resurrection. Whether you're staying home, visiting family, or enjoying the Kansas springtime, here are a few simple ways TYS students and their families can honor Easter during break:
1. Read the Easter Story Together
Set aside time during Easter week to read through the account of Jesus’s final days, His crucifixion, and His resurrection. Consider reading a portion each day leading up to Easter Sunday:
Palm Sunday (April 13): Matthew 21:1–11
The Last Supper: Luke 22:7–23
The Garden of Gethsemane: Matthew 26:36–46
The Crucifixion: John 19:16–30
The Resurrection (Easter Sunday): Matthew 28:1–10
You could read aloud as a family, assign different voices for characters, or let the children illustrate what they hear through drawings or journaling.
2. Create an Easter Prayer Garden
Plant seeds in a small pot or corner of your yard as a symbol of new life. As a family, talk about how Christ’s resurrection brings hope and new beginnings. Add small rocks painted with words like Hope, Forgiveness, Joy, and Grace.
Each day of break, visit your prayer garden together, share something you’re thankful for, and pray for others in your community.
3. Memorize a Resurrection Scripture
Encourage your children to hide God’s Word in their hearts by memorizing a verse like:
“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.”– Matthew 28:6 (KJV)
Write it out, sing it, or turn it into a hand-motion memory verse for fun family learning.
4. Have a Simple Passover-Inspired Meal
Maybe not a full Seder, but you could consider a family meal that reflects on the Last Supper. Include unleavened bread (like pita or matzo), grape juice, and roasted lamb or chicken. Before eating, read Luke 22:14–20 and talk about how Jesus shared this meal with His disciples.
5. Celebrate with Resurrection Eggs or Story Stones
Use plastic eggs to tell parts of the Easter story with simple symbols (a small cross, a stone, a nail, a crown of thorns). Or make “Resurrection Story Stones” by painting symbols onto rocks. Hide them around the house or yard and have a scavenger hunt where kids explain each one.
6. Sunrise Celebration
If you're early risers, gather your family outside on Easter morning to watch the sunrise and celebrate the empty tomb! Sing a favorite hymn like "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today" or "Because He Lives". Read John 20:1–18 as the sun rises, rejoicing in the power of the Resurrection.
7. Serve and Share the Joy
Easter is a time of sharing the good news. As a family, you could brainstorm a small way to serve others during break. Some ideas might include:
Write encouraging cards with a Bible verse to give to neighbors.
Bake treats to deliver to a shut-in.
Call or FaceTime a family member to share what Easter means to you.
As we enjoy Easter Break from April 14–20, may we keep the risen Savior at the center of our celebrations. Whether through quiet reflection or joyful family traditions, we pray this Easter fills your home with peace, purpose, and praise.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Warmly,
